Alexis in her own words:
My songs are one of the few paths in which I am finding myself. To articulate myself through the written/spoken word is not easy for me, but it is such a worthwhile process, and as I experience, so my songs are a reflection of those experiences. I am an intensely romantic person, so I deeply enjoy love songs; however, as I learn to cherish my growth as a woman, most of what you will hear now will be largely associated with spirituality, and the affirmation of women. To put it simply though, I am a lover of people, I am a lover of the sensual, I am a lover of the spiritual and on this journey, I am learning to fall in love with myself. My greatest hope is that in listening to my songs, people will fall in love!

Alexis “GoldenLover” Simmons is a one of a kind talent. Not only does she shine in Philadelphia’s intensely demanding soul music scene , but she has shown a gift for versatility, crafting songs in genres from R&B to House to Pop.
Alexis is a singer-songwriter who like many on her path, expresses herself deeply through the songs she writes. Alexis explains “My songs are one of the few paths in which I am finding myself. My greatest hope is that in listening to my songs, people will fall in love!”
Alexis credits her versatility to her early background as a back-up singer. She found her self in demand for gigs singing back up for a wide variety of acts. At one point she was singing back up for a Rock group, an R&B collective, a live Soul band, and a Gospel artist…at the same time, while working on her first single, a House record!
This record was “Selene: The Goddess of the Moon” , which was released early 2009 by Future Soul recordings, small indie label in New York. She describes the nearly accidental process that led to the creation of what is quickly becoming a crowd favorite at many live music venues in the city.
“I’ve been writing songs for a long time now, and as I got older I noticed that my concepts and arrangements have naturally expanded as well (though I still enjoy writing about love)! Selene started off as a poem, an ode to moon. For a couple of years, I turned my eyes skyward, magnetized by the moon, so early 2008, I wrote a poem, which turned into the first verse of the song. A couple of months later, I received a series of tracks to choose from, and while listening to the track at a friends house one day, I decided to try to vocalize the poem over the song. When I finally found the right rhythm, I took the song home and completed the second verse. A few days later, when I initially recorded the song, I noticed in the studio that it still sounded empty to me, so then I wrote and recorded the harmonies to the backing chorus that same day: When day turns into night/I know she’s coming soon/and now I’m hypnotized/Selene the Goddess of the moon. Later still, when listening to it at home, I then came up with what I call the chanting part of the song: I know that she’s coming/her energies running/throughout me/and I see/myself come undone/rpt. till/my own reflection.
Selene, the first in line of many soulful house songs I plan to record, will always be an incredible song to me because I challenged myself to express lyrically what I believe about aspects of nature and spirituality. I’m heavily into Goddess culture/history, however, when thinking of the direction the song would take, I focused more so on the moon and its connection to women, intuition and behavior. Interestingly enough, I was reading a book on goddesses at the time, and just happened to be reading a section on Greek goddesses, particularly, Artemis, Hecate and Selene (the trinity aspects of the moon). I chose Selene because I needed a title, and it sounded better melodically (imagine singing the other two names in the song)!! Selene represents my love and attraction to the night, of always waiting for the full moon, and most importantly, celebrating my femininity!”
Alexis has performed at The Clef Club, Relish, Warmdaddy’s and nearly every live music venue in Philadelphia. She recently finished a two month run at her own event, Golden Lover Thursdays, at the Raven Lounge in Rittenhouse Square, and is about to launch another run of this event, featuring her and an assortment of other top female acts in what has been called “an explosion of Goddess power”, in 2010 at South Street’s Bottom of The Sea.
